LPGA: Albane Valenzuela places 45th on debut

Last November, Geneva-based Albane Valenzuela, as an amateur, had earned full eligibility to play on the US LPGA tour and subsequently switched to the professionals. The 22-year-old made her debut with the professionals last week. Very successful, the Geneva player played solidly at the new tournament in Gainbridge (Florida), was under par at half time and managed the cut without any problems. With two par rounds at the weekend, she fell back to 45th place, but was ultimately satisfied with her game: "It was the first tournament of the year and I was extremely looking forward to it."

LET: Métraux sisters secure full eligibility for LET 2020

The Ladies European Tour started in January 2020 with the qualifying school. Last week, the final stage was on the agenda in La Manga (Spain), for which five Swiss women qualified. Three of them made the cut and were already restricted to play at LET 2020 after three rounds. Rachel Rossel and Clara Pietri came to the end after three laps.

The top 15 of the leaderboard receive full playing rights (category 8a) - including the two Swiss Kim Métraux (4th; total score 355 strokes, 6 under par) and her sister Morgane Métraux (14th; 364, 3 over par).

Anaïs Maggetti placed 40th (370, 9 over par), which secured her the tour ticket in category 9b (restricted start authorization). The two Métraux sisters will be able to play both on the US Symetra Tour and on the LET this season. In the coming weeks, the two Lausanne women will decide which tour their focus will be on.

The Challenge Tour will start into the 2020 season on Thursday (January 30th). Two Swiss will start at the Limpopo Championship in Modimolle (South Africa): Benjamin Rusch and Raphael de Sousa; Joel Girrbach is sixth reserve.

Staysure Tour: “Bossy” at the Q-School final

The Seniors tour started the season on Monday with the Q-School final at the Pestana Golf Resort (Portugal). After a mixed and disappointing 2019 season, the Swiss André Bossert has to go through this cumbersome qualification procedure. At the time of going to press, “Bossy” was in 14th place after the first of four rounds with a 1-under-par round. The Top 5 will be given full playing rights for the 2020 season.

Pro Golf Tour: Luca Galliano ranked 4th in Egypt

The Pro Golf Tour was in Egypt for two tournaments in January. In the second tournament, the Red Sea Ain Shokna Classic, Luca Galliano shared fourth place. He missed a playoff by three strokes after having lost these three shots in the second round (75 strokes). Nevertheless, the 34-year-old was satisfied. At the first season tournament (Red Sea Egyptian Classic), Galliano was disqualified after two rounds with a total score of seven under par - his marker had mixed up two holes. Galliano only noticed this error after signing the score card.

Marco Iten was ranked 26th and best-ranked Swiss at the opeing tournament. Jeremy Freiburghaus followed with one stroke more in 34th place. Zeno Felder and Yann Pfeifer clearly missed the qualification for the final round.

In the second tournament the roles were switched, with Galliano in fourth place (score: 3 under par) producing the best Swiss PGA result. Freiburghaus ended up in 12th place with one more shot. Iten followed in 13th place with another shot behind. Felder and Pfeifer missed the cut once more.
