Andermatt SPGA Tour

The beautiful and challenging Andermatt Swiss Alps Golf Course was in great conditions for the third Swiss PGA Tour event. With the wind picking up during the round and the always interesting green shapes and pin position, breaking par was not an easy task.

In the Seniors category Franco Li Puma started with 5 birdies in the first 8 holes and took the lead, but a double bogey on the 9th reduced the lead to a single shot. Things changed on the backnine with Andrè Bossert and Paul Wesselingh producing some outstanding golf and the latter clinching his second win of the year.

In the Open category the favourite was Joel Girrbach (former winner on the Challenge Tour) but James Johnson was ready to battle and after an eagle on the 8th he took the lead for the first time. The two were tied again for one hole after a two-shots swing at the 14th but Johnson was still ahead after bouncing back with a birdie on 15th. Girrbach was able to force a playoff with a birdie 4 at the last.

18th again, with Johnson laying up his second shot in a perfect spot and playing a wedge to 4 feet while Girrbach was able to attack the green: pin high but in the bunker, downwind and with the green sloping away from him. The shot was played high and soft and then he was able to hold the 6 foot putt coming back which in the end secured him the victory.
