LET - Hole-in-One by Kim Métraux
12.07.2021
Although Kim Métraux did not score a top result, she returned from the Aramco Team Series in London with a good feeling: "My putting was much better than in previous weeks."
This week, the conditions at the Centurion Club in St. Albans, near London, England, were perfect, although challenging. The 5,889 metre long course was lined with very high and thick rough with soft greens that required extremely accurate play. Kim Métraux started the first tournament of the Aramco Team Series with a flawless round and no bogeys of three under par. She was well placed for both the team and individual rankings. On the second day, the Lausanne native hit the shot of the day with a hole-in-one on hole 17, holing her ball with a 9 iron from 116 metres.
In the final round, the "Team Métraux" had to start early. Starting on 10, the Swiss player struggled at times in the first half of the round: "Today, I had to struggle with my long game. My tee shots weren't as accurate as in the first two rounds and the approaches didn't land as close to the flag," she explained after the game. She needed 42 strokes to overcome the back nine, but did not give up. "On the last nine holes of the tournament I didn't play any bogeys and I was even able to finish the round and the tournament with a birdie," she explained. With a total score of 222 (70/74/78), Kim Métraux is tied for 45th place. But more importantly, the native of Lausanne found her sensations back on the greens: "I am satisfied with my putting this week. It was much better than in previous weeks."
31st place in the team competition
The individual result counts for both the world ranking and the LET Order of Merit. But in London, there was also a team ranking, as this tournament was the first of four competitions in the Aramco Team Series. With a final score of 20 under par, "Team Métraux" finished in 31st place. There were 36 teams at the start, each consisting of three professional players and one amateur. As team captain, Kim Métraux could select one player. She chose Emma Grechi from France. The team was completed by drawing lots with Spanish pro Patricia Sanz Barrio and English junior Adam Romeih. For the team ranking, the two best scores (net) per hole counted.
