Swiss PGA Championship 2020
09.10.2020

After his victory last weekend at the Omnium Suisse, Joel Girrbach once more shows an impressive performance and wins the Swiss PGA Championship at Golfpark Zürichsee. In the strong field of participants, he positioned himself in front of the likewise internationally experienced Benjamin Rusch and Marco Iten. With a convincing performance André Bossert wins the senior's competition ahead of the second placed Paul Wesselingh. Golfpark Zürichsee offered the participants of this year's Swiss PGA Championship first-class conditions despite difficult weather conditions.

Swiss PGA Champions 2020: Joel Girrbach (Men) and André Bossert (Seniors)

The Swiss PGA Championship took place from 6 to 8 October 2020 in the excellently prepared and demanding Golfpark Zürichsee. Due to the massive reduction in the international tournament schedule caused by the Covid 19 pandemic, this year's field of participants was extremely attractive. The top players of the Swiss PGA annual order-of-merit fought for the title under changing and not always easy weather conditions.

With his first start at a Swiss PGA Championship and with the victory from the last weekend at the Omnium Suisse in his luggage, the 27-year-old Joel Girrbach from Thurgau started the tournament with two dream rounds of 65 (-7) and 66 (-6). "I am satisfied with my performance on the first two days. Despite difficult weather and course conditions, I made no mistakes and felt safe", commented Girrbach after the game. With nine strokes ahead, the tournament entered the last round. Despite attacking game strategies, it was difficult for second-placed Benjamin Rusch from Thurgau and third-placed Marco Iten from Zurich to build up pressure and close the gap. Joel Girrbach on his participation: "For us international tour players, it is important in the current situation to get playing opportunities with competitive fields. I was very pleased to be part of the Swiss PGA Championship for the first time and to be able to play in a strong field at the same time. With an overall result of 201 strokes (65/66/70) Joel Girrbach wins his first Swiss PGA Championship title.

The starting position for the Ü-50 seniors was also exciting. The Swiss "golf veteran" André Bossert and the internationally experienced Paul Wesselingh did justice to their role as favorites. With a strong round of 69 on the first day of the tournament, André Bossert immediately created a solid margin to tackle the second and third rounds in a controlled manner. In the end, the new Swiss PGA Senior Champion André Bossert had a reassuring 8-stroke lead over the second-placed Paul Wesselingh.
