The Swiss PGA Matchplay Championship took place from Monday 23rd to Wednesday 25th September 2019 at the Golfpark Zürichsee and was supported for the first time exclusively by the Swiss PGA Premium Partner Alfa Romeo as title sponsor.
Despite wet weather conditions, the new 18-hole course on the Upper Zürichsee provided ideal conditions for attractive matchplay duels. The 22 highest-ranked Swiss Golf Professional were at the start. The championship titles were selected by eighth, quarter, half and final.
In exciting matchplay duels, the young Swiss PGA professionals prevailed in the men's category. In a thrilling and exciting final, the two neo-pros Jeremy Freiburghaus and Perry Cohen faced each other. Until the 10th hole Freiburghaus gained a small advantage. However, with two lost balls at hole 11 and 12, Freiburghaus seemed to lose the momentum to Cohen. Thanks to a strong mental performance Freiburghaus fought back and secured an "All Square" after 18 holes. The game went into extra holes. Thanks to an impressive approach shot and a consequent birdie, Jeremy Freiburghaus secured his first Swiss PGA Matchplay championship title on the 19th hole. Yann Pfeiffer beats James Johnson in the match for third and fourth place.

Two experienced "Teaching Pros" competed for Seniors' title - Vivian John Ross and Lloyd Freeman. Freeman impressed with his precise short game and repeatedly responded successfully to his opponent's attacks. Only on the 17th hole, Vivian John Ross took the ultimate lead and decided the matchplay championship with a shared final hole on the 18th Green. In the match for third and fourth place, Harald Rohrbach prevailed against Franco Li Puma.
Irene Oberländer, Secretary General of the Swiss PGA, says: "We had one of the most exciting Matchplay Championships in recent years. Thanks to the support of our premium partner Alfa Romeo and the hosting Golfpark Zürichsee, we were able to offer our professionals optimal conditions. We were particularly pleased about the great public interest on final day. "
