Golf Director Slide

Just about a year ago, the Swiss PGA concluded a gap in education programs for golf club managers in Switzerland with the launch of the Swiss PGA Golf Director further education program. The first year turns to the finish line, the second will start in autumn 2017. Time, for first conclusions.

Comprehensive Training in Switzerland

Anyone who wanted to acquire the skills of a golf club manager could only complete an appropriate training abroad. This has changed in autumn 2016. At the time, the Swiss PGA, in coordination with the Swiss Golf Association ASG and the Association Swiss Golf Managers (ASGM), launched the "Swiss PGA Golf Director" course, open to golf professionals and interested amateurs. The comprehensive training enables the graduates, among other things, to take over all management functions in the field of golf club management and to implement a strategy adopted by the Board of Management.

Three Semesters, 20 Seminars, one Transfer Project

The course is designed for three semesters and is conducted by Dr. Angelo Amonini (on the right on the above picture). A first group of six participants, within 20 seminars, will acquire the skills that form the basis of successful golf club management. English is the language of the course, the "on course" seminars take place on Swiss golf courses. The curriculum includes strategy, leadership, human resources, finance, project management, legal and marketing complex, exciting, challenging and valuable for daily work at the club. Methodological and didactic approaches are deepened and virtual achievements are made in the form of individual work. Effective added value for clubs and participants results from the transfer project, which is worked out in the group, but also through the diploma thesis, which every graduate writes at the end of the training. In the topic selection, the students are free in the transfer project as well as in the diploma thesis.

Practical and Versatile

"The training is very practice-oriented. I appreciate the fact that I can apply newly acquired knowledge immediately. This was the case with the project management module and currently we are also benefiting from the theoretically gained new knowledge in the transfer project, "says Swiss-PGA-Pro Edwin van Westing. He has decided on further education for various reasons. "The working environment of golf pros is constantly changing. I want to be more versatile in the future, not just golf instructors, "said van Westing. His golf school benefited from the training of the owner: "Improving the position of my golf school within my golf club was certainly one of the reasons why I chose this training." The Swiss-PGA-Pro does not, however, close out that he wants to manage a golf club in the future.

Andrew Gossage, also a Swiss-PGA-Pro, had similar motivations to enroll in the course: "My main goal is to expand my skills and skills in the golf sector." He leaves it open where his future professional career will lead. For this, he and the GC Heidental, where Gossage is active, profit directly from the competences conveyed in the course: "I have learned how to structure and implement a project. That helps with my 'transfer project enormously,' says Gossage. «With the support of Dr. Angelo Amonini, we can push forward a very exciting and forward-looking transfer project at the GC Heidental, "he says. Gossage is still mysterious, but she says, "I think what we are going to do now will be taken over by other clubs."

Second course starts in autumn 2017

The graduates invest about ten percent of their time in the training. "I had to realize, however, that the transfer project now claims 10 to 15 percent of my working time," says Gossage. "The implementation is more complicated than I originally thought. I am glad that I have gained valuable knowledge in the course of the training and can now also rely on the expertise and experience of Dr. Amonini count. "

The participants of the first course agree at half time:

It is worth it! In autumn 2017 starts the second course.
