Bossy wins Travis Perkins Masters 2016

With a total of 8 under Par, André Bossert won his first European Senior Tour title, four strokes ahead of Philip Golding and Ian Woosnam. On the competitive Par 72 course, Bossy showed a great and consistent performance with rounds of 69/70/69.

Bossy captured his first European Senior Tour title in fine style at the Travis Perking Masters, holding off the challenge of former Masters champion Ian Woosnam.
Bossert also had to deal with swirling winds and tricky conditions on the Duke’s Course, but the Swiss overcame every obstacle to produce the lowest round of the day – a three under par 69 – to claim a four-shot win over Woosnam and former French Open Champion Phillip Golding and claim the first prize of €60,000.
Playing alongside Woosnam, Bossert birdied the first to sneak ahead of the field and from that point on he never relinquished the lead, posting a final round 69 for an eight under par winning total.
As he had done throughout the week, Woosnam struck the ball magnificently but his Achilles heel came with the putter in his hand with his ball refusing to drop below ground on several occasions.
“To me this is the biggest event on the Senior Tour so to get my first win here is something of a dream to be honest,” said Bossert. “And to do it in the company of a legend like Woosie makes it even more special.
“I’m ecstatic and just delighted to have pulled through. Carl, my caddie, and I talked over our strategy this morning and we stuck to the usual routine which is to play the course in segments of three. We always try to make one birdie for every three holes and thankfully today we got close to that.
“The only time I played conservatively today was coming down the last. The only thing I wanted to do with that approach was not go long, so I played the shot as though the pin was five yard shorter and just took going long out of play.
“It was nice to have three shot cushion playing the last. I figured that out on the 18th tee and it made the walk down the last very, very enjoyable.”
Bossert’s victory, which propels him from 24th to sixth place on the Senior Tour Order of Merit, joins an exclusive list of players to have won on the Challenge, European and Senior Tours.
Only Antonio Garrido, John Bland, Costantino Rocca, Phillip Golding, Pedro Linhart, Cesar Monasterio and Paul Eales had achieved that feat before Bossert was presented with the Travis Perkins Masters trophy by His Grace the Duke of Bedford.
“It’s awesome to have won on all three tours,” continued Bossert. “Pedro Linhart kept telling me that I had to join those guys on that exclusive list so it’s cool to be able to say that I have won on Europe’s three tours.”
